What is a doula you ask?
Doulas are there to help keep you on course with relaxation & pain coping techniques, to help you stay in rhythm with your body during contractions, to serve as an advocate helping to educate you about your birth choices. They serve as a coach to fathers and partners during labor to help them provide optimum support to you, and help you achieve your birth goals, whatever they may be: medicated or natural, hospital or home birth.
Long term benefits of having a doula include but are not limited to:
• Improved breastfeeding
• Decreased postpartum depression
• Greater maternal satisfaction
• Better mother-infant interaction
Throughout the pregnancy and birth of her son, Taryn developed an immense passion for pregnancy and birth. She believes that birth is a sacred event that deserves to be nurtured and respected. She also believes that birth for most women is not a medical crisis, but instead a inherently safe, natural event. She trusts that women are born with the inner wisdom and strength to birth their babies without intervention. However, she also knows when to appreciate medical interventions and pain medicine in labor when they are necessary in a long or complex labor. She has supported women in un-medicated births, medicated births, medically necessary cesarean sections and inductions, waterbirths and both Midwife and Obstetrician attended births. She feels comfortable supporting home births, hospital births and birth center births.
