The Stillwater Parks and Recreation, located at 315 E. 9th Ave., has opened registration for its fall sports season, which includes adult softball; adult volleyball leagues; youth basketball leagues; adult and youth tennis lessons. Registration forms are available online and at the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office, hours are Monday though Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Youth Fall Basketball League
Registration for 2011 Youth Basketball will take place between Monday, Sept. 19 and Friday, Oct. 7. Separate girl and boy teams for grades 2nd through 7th are available. The cost is $60 per child and may be paid by cash, check or credit card. A $25 late fee will be charged after Oct. 7.

Practices will begin the week of Nov. 7 at the Armory Recreation Center, 315 E. 9th Ave. Games will begin Saturday, Dec. 3 and will be played mostly on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons at the Armory Recreation Center, and a few week nights at Stillwater High School at 1224 N. Husband. Schedules will be mailed to the coaches by Nov. 18.

Participants may anticipate a break in the season between Sunday, Dec.18 to Sunday, Jan. 8. The season should end early February, depending on weather. Coaches are still needed for all grades and schools.

Adult Fall Softball League
Rosters for the 2011 Adult Fall Softball League are due by Friday, Aug. 26. Those interested are encouraged to complete the team roster and return it to Parks & Recreation Administrative Offices.

Entry fees must be paid upon receipt of roster. Checks, cash and credit cards are accepted. Leagues are limited to first 22 men’s and 22 coed teams received with payment.

Any player who lives outside the Stillwater city limits will be required to pay a $25 participation fee per season.

Once leagues begin, Men's teams will play doubleheaders Monday or Tuesday nights and Coed leagues will play Thursday nights. Teams will be allowed to add players to complete the roster at Parks and Recreation Administrative Offices or at the concession stand at Sanborn fields in the evening when games are being played. Players may be added throughout the season. Teams are limited to 20 players.

Adult Fall Volleyball League
Rosters for 2011 Adult Fall Volleyball are due by Friday, Sept. 2.  Those interested are encouraged to complete the team roster (available online) and return it to Parks and Recreation Administrative Office. Payment is due by Sept.16.

Teams are limited to 12 players, but they may add players throughout the season at the gymnasium. Teams will play 10 league matches and will be played Monday through Friday. Team shirts are not required. All matches played at Parks and Recreation Armory.

Youth & Adult Tennis Lessons
The City of Stillwater Tennis Lesson Program, designed to teach the beginner and advanced beginner players, is set for this fall for both youth and adults. Registration starts Aug. 8.

According to Amy Jo Frazier, recreation supervisor, "These lessons are perfect for the player with little or no experience. Instruction will concentrate on proper grip and the four fundamental strokes: forehand, backhand, serve and volley. While the advanced beginner who has taken lessons before and needs to improve their stroke and technique will benefit equally as the class will be divided between instructors by skill level.”

The lessons are held at Couch Park Tennis Courts, 800 E. 12th Ave. Participants provide their own rackets.  Lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. from Sept. 6-29.
The cost per session is $50 per person. Nonresident adults add $25. Credit cards accepted.

The Couch Park swimming pool is located at 800 E. 12th Ave. and is available for rental to any group for private parties on Sundays between 6 and 8 p.m. during season. The reservation and payment must be made in person at least 7 days in advance at the City of Stillwater Parks & Recreation Office – 315 E. 9th Avenue.

The Armory Recreation Center is located at 315 E. 9th and is open to the public 8 AM - 5 PM Monday - Friday. Two basketball courts are available. Contact 405.747.8070 to determine availability.

Lake McMurtry offers swimming, fishing, boating, camping, mountain bike and hiking trails. For more information, contact Rodney Wilson at 405.747.8085. The lake office is usually staffed Wednesday through Sunday.
